Debbie Green

Debbie was predominantly in Thee Headcoatees and also in Dutronc but has been in various bands starting back in the mid 80's. Here are a few of her little known appearances. She left Thee Headcoatees in August 1998 to concentrate on work and her other bands Dutronc, Baby Birkin and The Speed of Sound (changed their name from Planet of the Apes). Debbie is now also in a band called The Family Way she plays under the new name of "Lady Summer Way"

The Speed of Sound

Fronted by the eccentric Kevin Younger (once seen wearing a trilby at a Kenickie gig) who plays organ and guitar at the same time, their sound is arch, intense and decidedly seedy. The band were formed from the remnants of Baby Birkin, who were produced by Russell Senior immediately after leaving Pulp. Unfortunately they were extinct even as the ink dried on glowing write-ups in Select and NME. Speed Of Sound plan to be around for much longer.
With roots in both the easy listening and 60s garage camps (all are veterans of Mark Lamarr's one-time house band Planet Of The Apes, while early gigs were at seminal Headcoat hangout, The Boston Arms), Speed Of Sound offer a colourful alternative to three chord indie guitar pop. Ask them nicely and they'll even do vocals.
All that and a glamorous lady drummer to boot.
'Festival Of Britain' and 'Lord Dowdy's Theme' by Speed Of Sound available to download now.
