Mister Childish and Mister Ming have been writing poetry, playing music and painting pictures together since 1979 when they formed the Phyroid Press (The earliest track on The Cheeky Cheese is Sing Shed Sing which was written by Billy Childish in 1977) Their work together, documented on several LPs and 25 small press publications, is inspired by the early DaDaists, Edward Lear, Captain Beefheart and the literature of the absurd. The GUARDIAN described their previous material as “an authentic output of creative play”. They describe it as “a smoking chimney stack that falls over and crushes your wife and kids”. Curiously, both are true. |
