During the 19th century a breed a chicken was developed peculiar to the Medway area. The breed, now extinct, was a table bird for the London hotel market. The BUFF MEDWAY project, based at Fort Amherst, Chatham, is attempting to recreate that ancient fowl through a selective breeding project.

The inimitable Billy Childish (of Headcoats, Milkshakes and Mighty Caesars fame), with his friends John Barker and Wolf Howard (the original rythm section of the Daggermen) have formed a group in support of the BUFF MEDWAY project with their fund raising activities through there excellent rock and roll combo, THE BUFF MEDWAYS, helping to publicise the breeding project, raising public awareness of Chatham's only known chicken.

Also they make great records, 'This is This' being their first LP. THE BUFF MEDWAYS have all the punk credentials of Billy's previous groups, but this new sound is sure to win over even more converts to the Childish cause for 'real music'.

Or as Beck, one of Mr Childish's many admirers,succinctly put it: "that's how a rock'n'roll group should sound!".
